NYBG Presents Van Gogh’s Flowers

by Evelyn J. Mocbeichel

The summer weather and sunshine feels glorious and to see it streaming down in all of its brilliance is wonderful! This is the perfect time to go out and explore the beauty of nature. What better place to do that than the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG)to visit its latest presentation, Van Gogh’s Flowers? The exhibition will span three seasons, having opened in May and running through October 26, 2025. Visitors will experience the color and beauty of the natural world that inspired the iconic artist Vincent van Gogh through botanical displays and large-scale installations, including a field of real and sculptural sunflowers.  On select evenings, as the sun sets, there will be a Starry Night Show featuring hundreds of dazzling drones! It is the first of its kind at a cultural institution in NYC, along with live bistro music, performance art, and cocktails and light bites for purchase. A visit wouldn’t be complete without stopping at the gift shop for everything floral, from books, plants, artifacts and gift ideas for children and adult.  Then stop for a bite at the Pine Tree Café, or for a more elegant meal at the Hudson Garden Grill, or buy a refreshing drink at an outdoor pop-up bars.

Spring and summer at NYBG are times of abundant color and life, when the green of the trees returns to their 250 acres and thousands upon thousands of flowers burst into bloom in celebration of the warmth. Follow along with the bloom progress of some of the most beloved collections there. As NYBG grounds are so immense to walk by foot, we often ride their tram through these displays. Riders will pass by a multitude of colorful trees, bushes and meadows filled with such tree beauties as the cherry, magnolia and tree peonies. Bushes are just as impressive as you ride passed azalea, lilac, herbaceous peonies and roses. The tram slowly passes by meadows filled with daffodils, at a pace where photo opportunities await. Riders are welcome to exit the tram at any point, walk and explore, then catching another tram passing by to head back to the next spot or starting point. The NYBG is located at 2900 Southern Blvd., Bronx, New York 10458. Major Support for Van Gogh’s Flowers is provided by Delta Air Lines. Van Gogh’s Flowers is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Exhibitions in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory are made possible by the Estate of Enid A. Haupt. For more info visit https://www.nybg.org/
