Hello, and welcome to this month’s Montauk Fire Department Corner. I hope everyone is enjoying the Fall foliage and the refreshing weather.
Please join me in congratulating Company No. 6 Captain Eddie Ecker and Roxanne Ecker on their 50th Anniversary. Their guest list included friends and relatives from as far away as Hawaii and California. Many other attendees included MFD members and their families and Montauk folks. The celebration was held at The Montauket.
Congratulations also to our Treasurer Dick White who received the cherished Robert Lion Gardiner Foundation Award for his citizenship and especially for his work for The Montauk Historical Society and our Montauk Lighthouse.
Well deserved, Dick!
On September 20th we held our annual Big Bucks Bonanza Scholarship Prize Drawing and Picnic. This year it was held indoors in the Apparatus Bays due to rain. The bay doors were open, so people could go outside whenever there were breaks in the rain. The winners of the top $50,000 prizes were: Jay Sutphen, Ace Auteur, Carol Malik, Chuck Mallinson and Dennis O’Reilly. Please see the photos here. Our Culloden boat “sailed” to the Show to join the event.

On October 18th, Ex-Chief Mickey Valcich and Valinda Valcich held their annual Tyler Valcich Memorial Car Show and Ride in memory of their son. The day included rows and rows of proud antique car owners showing off their vehicles on the grounds of the Amagansett Fire Department. Following was a car tour around Montauk, with a drone following overhead. Please check out the event on www.tylerproject.org.
Please don’t forget to attend the annual Senior Holiday Dinner on December 6th at our firehouse. The Dinner begins at 12:30. For those Seniors unable to get there, please sign up for home delivery at (631) 668-5695.
So, that’s the up-to-date news. See you next month. Stay safe!
