The Point Bar & Grill…More Than Just Drinks & Burgers

by Sue Giustino

Many people have been to The Point Bar and Grill on Main Street in the heart of Montauk.   The pub/sports bar attraction with many TV’s and multiple games playing around the vast bar, famous chicken wings, burgers, and drinks is what most of us think about when we hear ‘The Point’. However, if you haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy a complete meal at The Point, you should give it a try. Casual, reasonably priced, fresh delicious food, and the friendly staff all adds up to a wonderful experience.

Kristi behind the bar creates delicious cocktail specials including the East End Punch-a tasty rum punch, the refreshing and perfect for summer Watermelon Mojito, and the tasty Skelly Seed Paloma.

Seating choices include indoor and outdoor, as well as at the bar or on a hi-top in the bar area. On the evening of our review, we ate in the inside dining section and enjoyed the wonderful service of our friendly waitress Heidy.

The appetizer list is extensive- offering something for everyone. In the past we’ve enjoyed the nachos, wings, calamari, and steamed mussels so we chose a few new ones that were recommended by Heidy. The tasty traditionally prepared Baked Clams have lots of clams and a fresh herb flavor, while the Lobster Quesadilla is full of fresh lobster meat, jack blend cheese, scallions, salsa, and sour cream. My favorite was the Blackened Scallops; tender, lightly blackened scallops served with an original special dipping sauce. One of the evening special appetizers was a crispy, spicy buffalo cauliflower dish that was also delicious.

In addition to a Soup of the Day and the hot and spicy Point Chili, there are a number of salads on the menu including Caesar, Southwestern, BLT Wedge, and a Shrimp Cobb. We decided on the Seared Tuna Salad which is mixed greens, with tomatoes, and red onions all topped with sliced Rare Blackened Tuna and accented with Asian Dressing.

For our main dishes, we decided on Steak Sandwich and another evening special, the Creamy Seafood Pasta. Just one of the many creative sandwiches/burgers that are on the menu, the Steak Sandwich is stuffed with tender sliced steak and served with fried onions and a special creamy steak sauce. Although the menu has a number of enticing entrée choices, we couldn’t resist the pasta special; a generous portion of scallops, shrimps, and chunks of lobster all tossed in a creamy lobster bisque sauce atop a bowl of farfalle created a delightful seafood pasta meal.

Of course, be sure to leave room for dessert, or just do dessert! Ask your server for the list which for us included tiramisu, gelatos, and cheesecake. But if the Chocolate Volcano is offered, don’t pass it up. The hot brownie with a volcanic chocolate fudge center that oozes out when broken into, all topped with vanilla ice cream and a light cookie crumble…need I say more!!!
