Take a moment to sit back, relax, and breathe!
A dimly lit pink salt cave welcomes visitors to relax for 45 minutes in the zero gravity lounge chairs while enjoying soothing meditation music and breathing in the healing salt. With your feet resting in the soft bed of pink salt crystals, covered with a cozy blanket, while the cool salt mist surrounds you, take a moment to soak in the beauty of the cave; the salt carved fireplace, and lamp sculptures. Then, just sit back, relax, and breathe!
Since the opening of the Montauk Salt Cave with her husband Peter, Founder/CEO Shannon Coppola has been helping people through halotherapy, also known as salt therapy. Before 2015 the closest location of a salt cave was in New Jersey. After researching the therapy for her son’s severe sinus and respiratory troubles, and finally visiting the cave and having quick, positive results, they decided to make one closer to home.
Halotherapy is an alternative treatment for a wide variety of ailments and conditions, such as asthma, allergies, inflammation, and even the common cold. The cave is made of Himalayan Pink Salt that is imported from the Punjab, Pakistan region of the Himalayan Mountains. It is said to be left over from the primordial sea, which left behind the salt deposits as it evaporated.
The treatment offers a unique, natural therapy that allows you to get a sense of peace and serenity, while simply breathing in the beneficial, negatively-charged, ionized salt particles along with the 84 trace elements and minerals that the salt contains, such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, iodine, bromine, copper, selenium, and iron.
These particles help to clear all pollens, viruses, pollutants and toxins of the lungs and nasal passageways, which in essence works to treat and prevent illness. The salt also works to heal the body as soon as its negative ions enter the nasal passageway, which then travel through the respiratory tract and into the bloodstream to be dispersed throughout the body. It is naturally anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-microbial.
In addition to halotherapy, they offer an array of holistic healing sessions and spa services. Among the services offered by trained healers is Reiki, Yoga, and sound healing. I went for a visit on a foggy afternoon and was greeted by Diane who was doing Tarot readings and I, having always refused, decided to do one. She was wonderful; slowly and clearly discussing the meaning and messages of the cards I chose. She is available for reading and meditation at the Salt Cave. The Spa offerings include massages, waxing, facials, nails, body treatments, lash lifts, and brow tinting and waxing.
Although the sessions in the cave are the main draw, the variety of additional services as well as the lovely boutique store front offering unique clothing by local designers, jewelry, and many Himalayan Pink Salt products makes a visit to the Salt Cave a complete self-care adventure.
With the success of the Montauk Salt Cave, Shannon and Peter have expanded and are now open in NYC and Huntington; each offering a unique calm healing vibe.
Their team of healers also specialize in a variety of healing techniques including Crystal Singing Bowls, Reiki, Guided Meditations, Kirtan Sound Healing, Kundalini Yoga, Gentle Flow Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Massage. Be sure to call desired location directly to inquire about specific services offered as not all services are offered at all locations. “It’s amazing what one forty-five minute session in the cave can do for the mind, body, and soul. We are so grateful to be able to share this magical, healing oasis with anyone who needs it.”
“We are so happy to spread the salty love with you, and hope that whether you’re treating a condition or just looking to relax, that you enjoy your time with us. We’ll see you at the cave!” ~ Shannon Coppola
