The Montauk Lighthouse Relights Historic Fresnel Lens

The beacon
knows her way
around and
around always
looking,
all ways.
Perpetually piloting,
her lens and lamps
always on.
Her silent
arms reach across the
ink black sea
steering the unknowing
away from reef and shoals—
Away from rocks ready,
patient and poised
outside ports—
Her optic soul, spins
unending,
reaching,
stretching,
imagining,
knowing that to be necessary,
is to be.
Knowing her
steady turn is the only
thing she could ever want.
Knowing the need for light
is her light.
