Montauk Fire Department Corner: April 2024

Photos by Richard Lewin Professional Photography (

Good day, and welcome to this month’s edition of the Montauk Fire Department Corner. I hope everyone had a fun and safe Saint Patrick’s Day. It’s already time for all of us to look forward to the Spring and the Summer seasons.

We have a lot to report about the Montauk Saint Patrick’s Day Parade but, before we get to that, the Department conducted our February drill on the night of February 26th on the MFD grounds. The drill was well attended and many good lessons were taught and reinforced. Please see the accompanying photos.

As I am sure you are aware, the Montauk Friends of Erin held their 62nd Annual Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Montauk on Sunday, March 24th. It was a great day and I am proud that the Montauk Fire Department turned out to march in support of this year’s Grand Marshal, Steve “Puck” Dolan. As always, the Department hosted Parade participants with coffee and Danish before the Parade, and a delicious corned beef meal when the march was completed. The Parade is always a great day in Montauk and a great way to start off our spring season, and this year was no exception. (see below)

As always, I was more than proud to lead the men and women of the Montauk Fire Department in our line of march, and I want to thank everyone who participated in this traditional Montauk event.

It is always nice to welcome outside guest visitors to our firehouse, to see how we are  prepared for emergencies. In March, New York City-based fashion Photographer and Agent JudiJupiter took a tour. Please see the photo of her standing in front of MFD Honorary Chief and Photographer Richard Lewin’s 75th Anniversary Photo Wall.

I would like to remind everyone that Stony Brook Medicine’s mobile mammography van will be at the MFD on Thursday, April 11th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Due to high demand, I recommend that anyone interested should call (631) 668-5695 and make an appointment as soon as possible.

This wraps up this month’s edition of the Montauk Fire Department Corner. From the ranks of the Department I wish you all a happy and joyous Easter and Passover season.

See you next month.
