This Villanelle is a Fathers-day poem. Imagine how the world will be when daddy finally comes home.
(Spiro 2014)
Heaven is with you daddy come and play.
Mommy loves me so much but I need you.
Now is our time it’s still early today.
I miss your smile daddy come home to stay.
My hands and face are clean my heart is new.
Heaven is with you daddy come and play.
I know you can do it and find a way
to see me here in playlight’s golden hue.
Now is our time it’s still early today.
We can be together like Yesterday.
Hours of daylight are a precious few.
Heaven is with you daddy come and play.
Please rush home to me daddy don’t delay.
We are a first love and one that is true.
Now is our time it’s still early today.
You’re always my hero hug me I pray.
Oh turn my tears to joy away from blue.
Heaven is with you daddy come and play.
Now is our time it’s still early today.
DAD by Ethan Bell
My words come out careful like steppingstones across water
But you have always been a steady pattern I can trust
A voice that doesn’t change when the world feels too loud
You taught me that love doesn’t have to be perfect
Just patient, Just there
So today on your birthday I want you to know
In the clearest way I can say it
I love you
