James Katsipis is a Montauk and Manhattan based fine art photographer known for his exceptional ocean photography and stunning visual art. Born and raised in Montauk, surrounded by the ocean, the sea has been an ever-present inspiration and muse whose influence spans the entirety of his career. For over two decades, He has travelled the world to capture the action of distant shores as an adventure and surf photographer. James Katsipis fine art photography and commissionable artworks are featured in art galleries, books, media campaigns, and magazines around the world.
His dedication to capturing the natural flow of elements has led to his unique photographic style. His ‘Mermaids of Montauk’ series, a portrayal of humanity’s relationship with the ocean, has been widely acclaimed, featured in exhibitions, and inspired a limited edition book.
Beyond photography, James is an advocate for ocean preservation, working with The Nature Conservancy and Save The Wave East Coast Film Festival. His passion for environmental conservation is evident in his work, which highlights the beauty of Montauk’s coastline.
Katsipis has traveled globally, capturing exotic seascapes and coastlines in places like Iceland, Peru, Ireland, and Panama. His clients include Estee Lauder, La Mer, Donna Karan, Volcom, Montauk Brewing Co., Patagonia, and Pucci.
