Fishing with Captain Skip

2015 really went out with a Bang! Blackfishing was about as good as it gets, the weather cooperated for the most part making it even better. Black Sea Bass really took up the slack when the Striped Bass decided to leave early, why exactly the Stripers left early is most  likely a combination of reasons. I definitely believe the lack of the “Hog Nosed Anchovies” run, during the Fall played a major part. Why they didn’t show? Only a Marine Biologist may have the answer.

Adios 1Thankfully, the Bottom Fishing was some of the best in years, the Black Sea Bass were just about everywhere and were huge. Along with them was a nice showing of Codfish. All this action took place over by Block Island. In early Fall the fish were close, and due to the warm conditions the fish moved slowly out to the deeper water and the Dogfish were kept at bay. This really extended the Fall bottom fishing providing great action and table fare for all of the anglers.

Adios 2The best part is that fishing is still good! Nice catches of Cod are coming over the rails when the weather permits. Pie plate Porgy are even hanging around, although you have travel further to get them. We’ve had some unseasonably mild days and more seem to be on the way this winter. Take advantage of the mellow winter and go catch supper. Local boats are staying in the water, ready to take you out.
