A Review by Sue Giustino
Pouring drinks and serving great eats since 2000!
Celebrating its 27th year, The Point Bar and Grill is a go-to destination for locals and tourists alike. The venue effortlessly splits its spacious layout to cater to every vibe. On one side, a lively, TV-lined sports bar offers the perfect place to catch a game, share drinks and food with friends, or escape the peak summer heat or cold of winter. Just steps away, a dedicated dining area provides a more relaxed setting for a delicious lunch or dinner.
Highlights of the extensive menu include an appetizer list with numerous seafood dishes, nachos and potato skins, tenders, tidbits, and fried pickles. In addition, there are multiple varieties of wings, tacos, burgers and sandwiches, salads and soups, entrees and pasta- oh so many tempting choices.
From the bar, we sipped a tart and flavorful Paloma Martini, a Blackberry Gin and Tonic with a lovely blackberry flavor, a refreshing Coconut Mojito, and a smoky Montauk Mescal. Delivered with a smile by our server Emily, our night was off to a great start.
With such a plethora of tasty choices, it was difficult to decide on starters, yet we found four that were delightfully flavorful and absolutely hit the spot. The melt-in-your-mouth Blackened Scallops delivered intense flavor alongside the gentle-tasting Point Crab Cakes with a light outer coating protecting the generous creamy crab center. Both the crisp Cajun Calamari and Buffalo Cauliflower balanced mild interiors with lively spice, each elevated by a custom dipping sauce.
For our entrees, we wanted to try something from each section of the menu; we succeeded except for the pastas. A visual masterpiece, the BLT Wedge is a stunning jumbo block of iceberg lettuce covered in smoky bacon, tomatoes, and blue cheese, then finished with crunchy fried onions, making a cool and easy hot-weather meal when you add grilled chicken or shrimp. Served in soft white corn tortillas, the 3 Seared Tuna Tacos are one of the six taco options available. A flawless tortilla creation filled with blackened seared tuna strips, crisp lettuce, fresh guacamole, Pico de Gallo, and a signature cucumber-wasabi drizzle.
Did someone say Burgers? Thirteen varieties in all- from the signature Point Burger, Reuben, Buffalo, Turkey, Steakhouse, Cajun, Tex Mex, Veggie, Fajita, to a Breakfast or Stuffed burger… all creatively unique. Our Signature Burger was cooked to a glistening medium-rare, bursting with rich juices, topped with our choice of cheese, then served with sliced tomato and onion, pickles, avocado, and crispy French fries.
Also, juicy and perfectly cooked, the 10oz skirt steak features a special house spice marinade. It is plated alongside creamy mashed potatoes and a savory southwestern corn and bean salad- a wonderful meal. A delightful choice from the specials rounded out our choices – Street Corn Shrimp. Perched on a bed of rice, boldly spiced blackened shrimp were accompanied by sweet, smoky street corn and avocado with a swirl of spicy mayo.
After such a delicious meal – our compliments to Chef Joe. We hardly had room for dessert, but Emily sold us on a few. From the decadent list, we chose the firm, exquisitely zesty Key lime Pie, and the irresistible Chocolate Explosion. A warm brownie with an explosion of hot fudge at the center is adorned with crumbled chocolate chip cookies, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and laced with chocolate and caramel syrup… unbelievable! Be sure to inquire about dessert.
