Good day and welcome to this month’s edition of the Montauk Fire Department Corner. I hope everyone is warming up after the long cold winter and looking forward to a happy and safe Easter and Passover.
It is with great sadness that I am reporting that an ex-Montauk Fire Department Member and a Montauk fishing legend, Captain Paul Forsberg, has answered his last alarm. Paul passed away peacefully several weeks ago in Florida. As a young man he was an active member in the Montauk Fire Department. He was a local Montauker and he will be sorely missed. On behalf of the officers and the men and women of the Montauk Fire Department, I offer our condolences to Paul’s family.
On the good news side, I am pleased to announce that the Montauk Fire Department has purchased, and have taken ownership of, two new pumpers to replace Company No. 1’s 9-3-1 and Company No.2’s 9-3-4. Both pumpers are identical which gives us great cross training opportunities and operational advantages at a fire.
The new trucks, Pierce “Enforcer” pumpers are replacing a 1995 Pierce “Lancer” and a 2003 “Saber”. You will get a chance to see more photos of these new trucks when we have an official “wetdown” in the near future.
Congratulations to the Montauk Public School’s seventh and eighth grade girls’ basketball team. The Lady Mustangs completed an undefeated season a few weeks ago and the Montauk Fire Department was happy to give them a proper escort into Montauk after their final victory. GO MUSTANGS!!
Due to print deadlines we’ll have to wait to post pictures of this year’s Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, but I want to once again wish Ex-Chief Tom Grenci the best of luck as the Grand Marshal in this year’s 64th annual Montauk Friends of Erin Parade. The Montauk Fire Department will be cheering him on in the line of march. Good Luck, Tommy!!
Thanks for reading this month’s edition of the Montauk Fire Department Corner. Have a Happy Easter and Passover. See you next month.
