Veterans Day at the Montauk Playhouse

by Evelyn J. Mocbeichel

The annual Veterans Day Flag Raising Ceremony was held once again on November 11th at 11 a.m. at the Suzanne Koch Gosman Flagpole Garden in front of the Montauk Playhouse. Veterans as well as the entire community were invited to attend this event to honor our local and nation’s military service member heroes. The ceremonies which included a laying of a wreath, flag raising, and singing were introduced and announced by Jennifer Carney Iacono, a Montauk Playhouse Foundation Board member. A beautiful rendition of the National Anthem was sung by Montauk 7th grader, Faith Mullaly and the Montauk Brownie and Daisy Troop 581 also sang two songs. The American flag was raised by members of the Montauk Boy Scout Troop 135, and then followed by the more than one hundred attendees saying the Pledge of Allegiance. The floral wreath for the ceremony was donated by Strawberry Fields Flowers and Gifts and light refreshments served after the ceremony were donated by Hampton Coffee Company.
