Montauk Library Gingerbread Winners

by Evelyn J. Mocbeichel

The Friends of the Montauk Library announced the winners of their First Annual Gingerbread Creation Contest. This year’s theme was The Buildings in Montauk. Advertising for the contest started as early as the beginning of October with flyers at the library, around town and even online at The Patch. In the past the Library has held other contests such as a fruitcake contest during Thanksgiving, Irish Soda Bread around St. Patrick’s Day and even a red, white and blue theme of something edible for Flag Day.

Sally Krusch of The Friends of the Library said the Gingerbread Contest was a family event and submissions were brought to the library by creative entrants of all ages. First Place winner was The Radar Tower created by the Lenahan family. Second Place winner was The Ronjo Motel created by Dan Elliott.  The other entries were the Karl Fisher Tower, the Viking Building (with shark) and the Montauk Teardown. The classic gingerbread house was also entered, but did not fulfill the criteria.

The Gingerbread Houses will be on display at the Library through January. Stop by and be inspired to join the fun next year for other events!
