Happy New Year to all. I trust everyone had a nice, safe Holiday season spent with family and friends. I imagine you are like me…always surprised at how fast the holidays are upon us then gone. It’s time to move on to the new happy and healthy New Year.

The Montauk Fire Department started out the New Year as we always do, with the swearing in of the 2026 MFD Officers. I am proud to serve again this year as the Chief of the Montauk Fire Department. We have a good year planned. We have new apparatus that we will put online in the near future, several new candidates in training that will help us tremendously and some useful and innovative training. I, my Assistant Chiefs, and Company Officers are excited about, and looking forward to, working with the men and women of the Montauk Fire Department. Here is our 2026 lineup:

On Sunday, December 7th the Montauk Fire Department and the Montauk Point Lions Club held the annual Senior Holiday Dinner at the Fire Department. As always it was a fantastic event with great food, drink, music, dancing and good old Montauk camaraderie. There were 500 dinners served or delivered to our Montauk Senior Citizens.

I’d like to thank the Lions Club for their continued partnership, head chef Joanie Franzone and her committee and the men and women of the Department for making this event such a success.

While still on Christmas theme, I’d like to thank all the generous people of Montauk for donating to our Toys for Tots drive this year. It’s my understanding that we broke records this year in the number of new toys donated so that more of our local kids would have something under the tree. Thanks to firefighter Denis O’Reilly for heading this committee so successfully every year.

Company No.6 assisted the East Hampton Town Police Department with traffic control in this year’s annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot Run For Fun. Over 1,500 runners braved the cold wind and ran around the lake. Well done.

Happy New Year
