Good day and welcome to this month’s edition of the Montauk Fire Department Corner. I am sure that you feel as I do that it’s hard to believe that Labor Day is already upon us. I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable summer.

Several weeks ago, the Montauk Fire Department took possession of a brand new ambulance. It is currently in service and is numbered 9-3-16. It is a 2025 Ford gas engine body with a classic ambulance rear compartment. It is fully equipped with all the necessary first aid, and advanced life saving tools. This replaces our old 9-3-16 so we continue to operate with a fleet of three ambulances.

Blake Lucas

Recently seventeen new Members were voted into the Montauk Fire Department as Firefighters or EMT’s, and one new member into our MFD Juniors program. We are very happy to welcome Blake Lucas into the ranks of our Junior Firefighters. Blake is a fourth-generation member of the Montauk Fire Department. His great-grandfather, Bob Burns served for many years, his grandfather Artie Lucas is still active and has well over fifty years of service to the Department, Blake’s dad, Robbie Lucas is an active Member with over twenty years of service to the Department and community. Welcome aboard, Blake! We know you’ll follow in your family’s dedicated footsteps. Congratulations to the following new Members. I know I speak for the whole Department in saying welcome aboard, and we look forward working with you: Max Akkala, Christopher Blotieu, Gary Costello, Thomas Courteney, Chris Darenberg, Chris Grinell, Roman Kockanowsky, Robert Mautschke, Thomas Marmorowski, James Nigro, Michael Putnam, Grace Rosi, Jon Rodrigues, Justine Selier, Robert Snyder, Amanda Thompson & Justin Zorbo.

I would like to take this opportunity to call attention to our partnership with the Police Officers from Suffolk County Police Department’s Aviation Unit. As you can imagine, when a serious call like a stroke, head trauma, etc. happens in Montauk it is important to get our patients to the best care possible as fast as possible. We have recently had several calls where we utilized Suffolk Aviation. In every instance they responded within minutes and took the patient to Stony Brook Hospital within the hour. As you can see this is important for the best care for our citizens and visitors.

Have a happy and safe Labor Day Weekend.
