Poetry Corner with Lawrence Spiro

Esau: by Lawrence Spiro

Grasped by the heel, I pull him out.

Pulling two flush me red.

I am powerful. He is not.

I am first in his stead

A strong man for today

For ever not his destiny

We play a game.

I do not care.

Loser first fame

wins tasty fair.

A simple man for today

 For ever not his destiny

He tends the earth

She guides his way

He counts my worth

in hunt and play.

A gaming man for today

 For ever not his destiny

He sticks him

to a binding will

willing me dim

from all too nil.

A forgiving man for today

For ever not his destiny

She bids him flee,

Seven times plus years,

he runs from me.

until my tears.

A moral man for today

For ever not his destiny
