Steven Abbondondelo will discuss ways to help save Long Island’s sea turtles when they wash ashore in cold weather. Cold stunning, a condition similar to hypothermia, happens when cold-blooded sea turtles become immersed in water below 50°F. Since this slows their movements, immobilized sea turtles wash ashore where they become stranded and slowly die. Join the discussion and learn how to spot cold stunned sea turtles and report their locations to the NY Marine Rescue team in Riverhead.
