At the Montauk Town Dock! Its purpose is to bless the boats as the summer fishing season starts and also and foremost commemorates the lives of the fishermen and their families that have past away in that year. It’s a powerful and moving ritual that was brought to this country by the Portuguese fishermen asking for protection as they faced the rough and treacherous seas. This ritual can be found along the North east coast and the village of Montauk started it about 40 some years ago.
