Missy is my new pup, she’s a lucky little dog because if not for a group of women who take dogs from Long Island KILL shelters and puts them up in their own homes until they find a suitable home for the condemned or orphan dogs she would be history.
I went to Petfinder.com on the Internet, a community of amazing people--mostly volunteers enabling force in the world of animal rescue. Shelters and rescue group members have reported that more than 50 percent of their adoptions are from Petfinder. They also report that pets adopted via Petfinder are returned to the shelter less. For many organizations, this makes Petfinder the most effective advertising medium. Since it is FREE, it is certainly the most valuable.
Since Missy was lost and not found by her original owner I decided to have Dr. Molly inject a identifying chip so I don’t lose her. Missy hardly flinched from the procedure and can now be identified by her implanted microchip. I was told little Missy was about eight months old but Dr. Molly thinks she is closer to two years old, so I should change her diet to adult food and that will help with some of my obedience problems. She wants to play all day and just have fun. All and all Dr. Molly thinks she should have a long and healthy life.
While Missy is cute and healthy she sometimes is less then cooperative. So I called “Look Who’s Walking Now” owned by my friend Orla Troy who has recently returned to her former occupation of training pets. It seems Missy has been taking advantage of me. In minutes Orla had her walking like a lady on a leash and ten minutes more Missy would sit and stay on command. Orla tells me I need to learn how to instill in little Missy that I am the leader of our pack and we will have a happier and easy life together. If you need her help call 631-238-5054
Last but not least I’m making an appointment with “In good Hands Mobile Grooming and pet sitting service” owned by Diana Dombrowski her contact # is 668-4496 to groom Missy maybe a puppy cut that would be cool for the summer don’t you think.
So thanks to some generous and caring people Missy has gotten a reprieve from her death sentence. Instead she gets to go to the beach and is making new friends every day. If you are looking for a pet visit ARF “which is not a kill shelter” or Petfinder.com and give a home to a pet that would otherwise be thrown away. |
