Montauk visitors will have to allow some extra money in their vacation budgets starting December 1, 2009...but don’t blame the local hotel and motel management! In September, the Suffolk County Legislature voted in a 3% motel/hotel tax increase taking affect on that day. Below is a listing of each of the county legislators and how they voted on this crucial matter. Suffolk County residents may want to let their legislators know how they feel about the increase. Also listed is the contact information for Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy who still has the power to veto the increase. Though it is a long shot, unless residents let their elected officials know how they feel about such increases, we have no one to blame but ourselves. Voted AGAINST Tax Increase, Keeping Taxes Down Edward P. Romaine (R)
Voted FOR Tax Increase, Raising Taxes Kate M. Browning (WF) Steve Levy, County Executive
