Fishing in July certainly had its ups and downs. Striped bass fishing has been picky all month with little consistency to the catch. Some days the Montauk Charter Fleet would limit out and other days it was hard to put more than six keepers on the docks.

Fluke fishing was pretty good all month with some nice doormats to 9 pounds landed. Porgy fishing was excellent all month with limits caught on most outings.
Offshore action has been limited to mostly shark fishing which has been pretty good. Blue Sharks have been very plentiful with enough mako and thrasher sharks around to make it interesting. Notable catches were a 375 pound mako caught on the Bluefin IV, a 518 pound thresher caught on the Adios and yours truly had a 383 pound hammerhead on the Capt. Mark. Lots of other nice makos and threshers were landed making July a pretty good month.
Tuna fishing is off to a slow start with a few Bluefins landed but virtually no canyon action as of this writing. A handful of yellofin and albacore have been landed but no good action yet.
August stands to be a better month as larger bass move into the area. Big fluke will depart the peconics and again descend on Montauk and offshore tuna action will definitely perk up.
Until Next Time,
Keep Dreaming and Fishing,
Captain Mark
