If you did not attend the Ciaran Sheehan concert, Coming Home, you missed one of Montauk’s premier musical events! Every seat in the stunning St. Therese of Lisieux church was taken with many of the guests repeat attendees from one of Mr. Sheehan’s other concerts. This event was a fundraiser for The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation (MPCCF) and another in a long line of wonderful events this organization plans throughout the year. In association with Carole McMorrow, the concert was heavily advertised and brought together Mr. Sheehan, joined by Eamonn O’Rourke, Brenda Landrum and Vonnie Quinn. Star Sponsors of the event were Mr. And Mrs. E. Virgil Conway, Mr. And Mrs. Robert E. Gosman and Dr. Charles P. Melone. The Concert Committee: Joan Lycke, Suzanne Lieder, as Co-Chairs, Kathleen Beckman, Lynda Bostrom, Marilyn Bogdan, Jane Hastay, Diane Hausman, Carole McMorrow and Maureen Rutkowski. A special thank you to Father Charles Ehrhart, Reverend Mike Rieder, Ken Guistino at The Montauk Sun and Dan Murphy at the Montauk Downs. (After the concert a champagne reception was held for Ciaran Sheehan where guests that bought special tickets met Mr. Sheehan in person and gathered for post concert cocktails at The Downs.)
Ciaran Sheehan has appeared in numerous Broadway musicals and productions, debuting in Les Miserables and later the Phantom of the Opera. Other sell out performances included appearances at The National Concert Hall in Dublin and Carnegie Hall in New York City. Now Montauk residents and guests to the East End had a fine opportunity to enjoy this production right in the center of Montauk!
Sheehan’s onstage presence is warm, personable and with a charming smile that audiences feel quite comfortable with only minutes after he comes out to sing. The concert that night blended the best of Irish music, from love songs to songs of legends, to the best of Broadway with show stoppers from Tony winning musicals that Mr. Sheehan has appeared in over the years. Before many of his numbers, the artist gives a little background about either the composer, when it was written or how it became one of his many favorites to perform. A delightful way to bound with the audience while giving these fascinating historical trivia notes. Hopefully next year will find Ciaran Sheehan back out here again to present another superb performance. If we are that lucky, buy your tickets early because word is growing and it is sure to be another sell out show!
