One of Executive Director and Chef Therese Jarmain’s Gourmet Lunch at the Senior Nutrition Center: Pork w/ Onions, Mushroom Gravy, Red Cabbage, Brussel Sprouts, Roasted Potatoes & Apple Sauce

Going to lunch at the Senior Nutrition Center’s Montauk Playhouse, located on 340 Edgemere Street, is so much fun! You get to meet your neighbor and are served royally, on fine china and silverware in a beautifully decorated and cheery dining room.

Executive Director and temporary Chef, Therese Jarmain, with the help of a few staff and volunteers, have been serving, superb, hot, entrees such as Pork with Onions, Chicken Parmigiana, Roasted Chicken Thighs, Eggplant Rollatini and Ziti with Meatballs since the Center opened in July, after sixteen months of being closed. The best restaurants in town can’t compete with its quality and quantity, and the price of $3.00, including salad, soup, coffee, tea and to-die-for deserts can’t be beat.

We all know that socializing is important to one’s health, physically and mentally, especially for those who live alone or whose children have left the coup, that is why, the seniors don’t mind having to wear masks or having to sit a safe distance away from each other. Little acts of kindness such as a smile or a compliment, go a long way in brightening’s someone’s day. As a bonus, birthdays are celebrated at the end of each month with a delicious, vanilla, sheet cake, topped with fresh strawberries and candles to blow out, so wishes can come true.

The Center helps seniors stay active and alert. Montauk’s local, Ms. Tsuyumi keeps the group in shape on Mondays and Fridays, at 10:45 a.m. with chair- yoga exercises that keeps the body, limber and relaxed. Ms. Ianacone, from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Wellness Institute, gives talks on good nutrition and health issues on Tuesdays, at 1p.m. She also gives Tai-Chi exercises to help maintain good balance and prevent accidental falls. Currently, playing bingo, cards, dominoes and mahjong are temporarily suspended until further notice.

If you are sixty and over and would like more info or would like to join this energetic and well fed group, kindly call Ms. Jarmain, at least 24 hours in advance at 631 668 1023 or e-mail her at mtksencenter@gmail.com, to reserve a meal for you. The Center is open on Mondays through Fridays, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. See you there!
