May Birthday Celebrants

by Patria Baradi Pacis

On Thursday, May 31, Memorial Day, the birthday celebrants for the month of May, Nolda Vivo, Chef Eric, Edna Neuer and yours truly couldn’t wait to eat their birthday, strawberry shortcake to share with their peers. Wished we could have saved a piece for Evelyn Walles, Iris (Chicky) Aster and my sister, Perla Spanskie who couldn’t be there in person.

As I write this article, the calendar tells me that tomorrow, June 21, is the beginning of summer, the longest day of the year, but even the trees are confused with its white flowers still in bloom and I with my sweater still on. Yet, our quiet village is no longer quiet. Instead, the hustle and bustle of all the goings on around town are back, a welcome change for main street business owners who are hoping for a great summer after a long, hard winter.

Hopefully by next week when this magazine’s July issue is out, the perfect beach weather that Montauk is known for namely, sunny days and cool nights, will be more prevalent. As for me, I won’t be making any left turns for a while nor crossing the street if I can help it. The locals know what I mean. But it’s ok. All is good.

If you are 60 and over and need transportation to and from the center and would like to be royally served a delicious and well balanced meal, from soup to desert, for only $3.00. Please don’t hesitate to call Executive Director Eileen Bock or her Assistant Sharon at 631 668 1023 on week days. You will be welcomed with open arms by the young at heart. You can also join Ms. Tsuyumi twice a week, before lunch, with her chair yoga exercises or play bingo, dominoes, cards or mahjong with your neighbor after lunch.
