Near Montauk Point Lighthouse, by the cliffs that tower over the ocean, stands Camp Hero. A former military base for the Air Force and Coast Defense, Camp Hero is now a State Park, open to the public for visiting. The park offers a number of beautiful trails for hiking and biking as well as breathtaking views from the cliffs that overlook the rocky beaches along Montauk Point.
Along with its many beautiful attractions, Camp Hero has also been the object of very much debate and conspiracy over the years. The seemingly normal Air Force base which was established during WWII, has been suspected as grounds for The Montauk Project, a secret military initiative for time travel, mind control, and even extraterrestrial encounters.
As the base has been said to be used for various secret testing purposes, many people claim that those involved could have been brainwashed to forget what they had seen or taken part in once the project began to fade out. Some even say the secret testing continues to occur today, right beneath our noses, under the ground, below the towering radar station. As you stand at Camp Hero looking out over the cliffs, it is difficult to picture it in all its beauty, as being involved in some tragic part of World History.
